One of the great things when it comes to landscape design and build makeovers is that no matter how small an area is or how confined a space may be; it can always be designed with simplicity and elegance in mind. By utilizing the appropriate species of planting materials, any look can be achieved.

Since we were planting in the autumn season we utilized Mums, decorative cabbages and kales and also planted several groupings of spring flowering bulbs such as tulips, hyacinths and daffodils. These will provide a spectacular display of color for approximately 6 weeks during spring of next year, after which annuals will be planted providing year round color within this landscaping.

When considering plants for small areas, growth habits become one of the major factors in choosing the right plants. Slow growing plants allow the design to mature rather than outgrow itself prematurely. Variegated Boxwoods, Honoki, and Pinus Pavaflora are the feature plants that anchor this design.

Larger Boxwoods tie in the corner while smaller boxwoods add interest contrast throughout the beds. The bluestone walkway, with it textured appearance and color also added a bit of elegance to the overall project, helping to draw one’s eyes to the focal points within the overall landscaping.

As an added touch, a privacy screening of Emerald Green Arborvitae was added along the property line, providing year round color, texture and privacy.
